CONSTITUTION OF EDUCATION IN ACTION
PREAMBLE:
We, the members of Education In Action, subscribing to the policies and regulations of Ball State University, do hereby establish this constitution to govern the matters within our organization.
ARTICLE I: NAME
The name of this organization shall be Education In Action, henceforth referred to as Education In Action or E.I.A.
ARTICLE II: PURPOSES
The purposes of this organization are to:
· Provide instructional and resource materials for its members.
· Promote unity in the Department of Elementary Education.
· Provide ideas for improvement in teaching areas.
· Provide partnerships between the members and the community.
· Provide enrichment between the Department of Elementary Education and the Elementary Education Curriculum.
ARTICLE III: MEMBERSHIP
· Section I. Membership is open to all BSU Education majors and minors with an emphasis on Elementary Education, Early Childhood, and Dual Majors with Special Education.
· Section II. Faculty and staff at Ball State University are also welcome to join this organization.
· Section III. There will be no discrimination on basis of race, gender, or any other factor in the selection of its members.
· Section IV. Members are only considered members after payment of dues has been made on the third meeting that is attended.
· Section V. Members will lose membership after being absent for twenty-five (25) percent of the meetings and events sponsored by Education In Action. No refunds will be distributed thirty (30) days after payment of dues.
ARTICLE IV: OFFICERS
· Section I. Officers of Education In Action shall be referred to as:
President
Vice President
Treasurer
Secretary
Publicist
Service and Fundraising Chair
· Section II. Executive Board. The President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Publicist, and Service and Fundraising Chair shall serve as the executive board for Education In Action. This board will meet bi-weekly to collaboratively plan the meetings for the organization.
· Section III. Term of office. Term of office shall be for one year beginning in the fall semester. Officers will be elected by majority vote after clearing an interview process.
· Section IV. Vacancies. Vacancies in offices will be filled by a majority vote of the members present at a regular meeting or a meeting called for that purpose. A newly selected officer will fill each vacancy except a vacancy in the office of President, which will be filled by the Vice-President.
· Section V. Removal of Officers. A quorum of three-fourths of the active membership must be present to conduct a vote to request the resignation of an officer, with a majority vote needed to pass the vote.
· Section VI. Advisor. The advisor of Education In Action shall attend meetings as often as necessary to ensure the quality of the organization. The advisor is also the liaison to the Office of Student Life.
ARTICLE V: MEETINGS
· Section I. Meetings will be held at least once a month, with the intention of meeting bi-weekly. Exact meeting times may vary each semester.
· Section II. Meetings can consist of a general meeting, professional development event, community service event, or other social event.
· Section III. The President of Education In Action or faculty advisor has the right to call special meetings.
· Section IV. A quorum shall consist of fifty percent of the active student members.
· Section V. Members of the Executive Board must be present at all meetings. Only one absence is allowed each semester; excused absences include illness or injury and require a doctor’s note.
ARTICLE VI: AMENDMENTS
An amendment will be ratified and added to the constitution with a two-thirds majority vote of the members present at a regular meeting or a special meeting called for that purpose. The constitution should be revisited each year to ensure Education In Action is fulfilling all expectations.
